ACCORDING TO THE NIH,

Heart Disease, Inflammation, Chronic Pain, Osteoporosis, Autoimmunity, Infertility, Menopause, Adrenal Fatigue, Cancer, Fibromyalgia, Anxiety, Depression, Hypothyroid…

-are some of the many health conditions in which Naturopathic physicians combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science to restore the health of the body.  Steeped in traditional healing methods and progressive medical peer-reviewed research, principles and practices, naturopathic medicine focuses on pro-active prevention and comprehensive functional diagnosis and treatment.

By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, naturopathic physicians help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. It is the naturopathic physician’s role to identify and remove barriers to good health by helping to create a healing internal and external environment.

Naturopathic physicians work in private practices, hospitals, clinics and community health centers. NDs practice throughout the United States and Canada. Qualified naturopathic physicians undergo rigorous formal nationally accredited training before they become licensed health-care practitioners.

NDs treat all medical conditions and can provide both individual and family health care. Among the most common ailments they treat are

allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

NDs can perform minor surgeries, such as removing cysts or stitching up superficial wounds. However, they do not practice major surgery. NDs are trained to utilize prescription drugs, although the emphasis of naturopathic medicine is the use of natural healing agents.

Your First Visit
A naturopathic physician will take time with you. During your first appointment, your doctor will take your health history, find out about your diet, stress levels, etc. He or she may perform or refer for an examination and order diagnostic tests. Naturopathic physicians keep up-to-date on the latest scientific research and incorporate this evidence into their treatments. The naturopathic physician will work with you to set up a customized health management strategy. If necessary, your doctor will refer you to other health-care practitioners.

A first visit with a patient may last one to two hours and follow-up visits range from 30 to 60 minutes, although this varies depending on the ND. Naturopathic physicians need sufficient time to ask questions and understand the patient’s health goals. NDs also need time to gather information and teach their patients about improving their health.

An ND may use functional diagnostic tests to fully understand their patient’s health status. Besides taking the time to carefully assess a patient’s root problem, NDs speak and understand the language of conventional medicine. They can diagnose the way MDs do—yet, they bring to the patient a whole new natural realm of therapies and insights. Instead of waiting for a disease to emerge, NDs work to head it off before it happens.

Dr. Bella K. Icenhower, sharing her Passion, Knowledge and Wisdom of  Naturopathic Functional Medicine for over 20 years.

I am Your Best Naturopathic Doctor:

•  In helping women learn how to care for themselves through the demands of life. I have found in my 20 years of practice that many women by the age of 50 are spent, tired, exhausted, depleted…  My desire is to catch women in their 20’s, 30′s and 40′s who may be headed down this spiraling path and redirect them, gently. With women in their 50′s and on, I help to Restore, Rejuvenate and Replenish their health and vitality. The body is amazing in its desire to heal and be well.

•  In guiding families to be a Whole Family. Many of us start to raise our children as we were taught which often are not the best of habits. Re-patterning can be easy and fun. With a little guidance here and there, soon your family becomes well and whole. I work with each child as needed to identify patterns through the diet, environment, mental, emotional  and physical aspects that cause imbalance and ill health. Maybe your two year old suffers with allergies, your 9 year old is diagnosed with ADHD, your teenager has acne, weight problems, or menstrual pain. Maybe you have fatigue and/or sleep problems and your husband snores and/or has back pain? I work with any and all acute and chronic illness.

I am most happy to help create habits before children come into the picture which may make parenting much easier.

•  In being available Globally, Virtually. With today’s universal access to the World Wide Web, I have made a Virtual Practice and Membership!

People are on the go and need easy access to naturopathic medicine that is tailored specifically and uniquely to them.  I work within the United States and around the world via FacetimeSkype, phone, and email. I order blood work as need be through your primary care or Ob/Gyn, or my order which you can take to any lab. Once our relationship is established, I will answer your quick questions and make recommendations accordingly.  For example, I may be working with you to resolve a chronic health issue (s), AND you are about to fly out of the country… what should you take to maintain healthy immunity?
